The Village Resident Council at The Village, a Heritage skilled rehabilitation and nursing community in Gerry, NY, recently presented $500 scholarships to four local high school graduates, Brittyn LeBaron, Spencer Blake, Rachel Ward, and Janie Swanson. The members of the Resident Council established the Heritage Village Resident Scholarship in 2001. The scholarship is an award based upon merit and presented annually by the Resident Council to a high school senior planning to continue his/her education and enter the health care profession.
Since 2001, resident council has been giving scholarships to area students based on merit to assist with future college expenses. The money is raised by the residents through various events held throughout the year and the winners are selected by the residents as well. It is the hope of the council that this scholarship will help students reach their goals as they move on into their life of new beginnings.

Brittyn Lebaron, a Cassadaga Valley Central School graduate, will attend JCC’s nursing program for two years and then transfer to obtain her bachelor’s degree. While in college, she plans to continue to work at The Village and become a CNA with the ultimate goal of working in either a NICU at the hospital or a nursery.
Spencer Blake, also of Cassadaga Valley, will attend the University at Buffalo for Biomedical sciences. He plans to work in healthcare.
Rachel Ward, a Falconer Central School graduate, will attend the University of Akron to continue her academic and athletic career studying exercise science as well as Pole Vaulting for Divison 1 track and field.
Janie Swanson, also of Falconer Central School, will attend Gannon University and pursue a degree in the medical field to become a pediatric or family physician.
