Seeking the Truth?

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of Truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come. He will glorify me, for he will take of what is mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are mine. Therefore I said that he will take of mine and declare it to you.” – John 16:12-15

As we go through life’s daily events, where we go or what we do is directly related to what we are hearing. And the more we hear, the more we believe what we have heard to be true. The reality is this, if what we are hearing is not supported by scripture, then, most likely, we are not hearing God’s Word. Our desire must be to hear and be led by God’s Word.

The passage above helps us to understand that God does not reveal everything to us at once. Note the point that Jesus made to his disciples: “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). In other words, not all things are given to us at the same time, but God knows the appointed time to unfold his Word to us. Such information is declared to us by his Spirit, the Spirit of truth (or the Holy Spirit), at the appropriate time establish by God. As Jesus puts it, “when he, the Spirit of Truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth… and he will tell you things to come” (John 16:13). Therefore, as we go through life’s daily events, I encourage each of us to seek the Spirit of God, to guide us into all truth as to where to go and what to do.
